![]() I assume your Canon has some similar feature, but if not I would opt for a second receiver and let the camera control your 550 and 320. With Nikon I can use CLS to control the power levels of my remote flash units (up to 3 groups) from my camera. I assume those TTL triggers will let you set your remote flash (550EX) from the camera.īut when shooting off-camera I will generally take all the lights off the camera. You can probably set off the 320EX from the 550EX if the 320EX supports an optical slave mode (it fires when it detects another flash has fired), but then you probably won't be able to control the power level of the 320EX from the camera. I prefer manual control of off-camera flash power levels from my camera. TTL doesn't know how much wrap-around or hair-light you want. In general, TTL isn't really great with off-camera flash, especially when there are more than one light. ![]() I'm not a Canon shooter, but this is my take: OR should I get a smaller umbrella and use the big one and a smaller one on the side? While I am firing questions, because I am photographing mini sessions of families, should I rather use the umbrella as a bounce with a black backing?īefore I venture in the 'testing stage', I really thought that a lot of you have totally been in a similar spot and may know what I need. I am planning on using the umbrella in the centre and shooting through it.possibly using a black sheet to keep some of the spill light from the back. What more do I need? Should I get another receiver? Should I buy some or other master flash or should I get something that just functions as a flash trigger? ![]() Or can I use the 320EX (it is not the strongest so do not want this as the main flash) and then get the 550EX to fire off the 320EX? I am familiar with requiring a master to set this all going.but I am thinking of using the hahnel to set off the first flash (550EX in the umbrella), and then setting the 320EX to flash from the other somehow. So, I have the Hahnel Tuff TTL trigger and receiver: I have a 5DMkii and 320EX which I adore and I have now added a Canon 550EX, a softbox and a shoot-through 180cm translucent umbrella in the mix. I am venturing into the studio excitedly!
